Specialist Notes
This is the FIRST RARE EDITION of the famous Bentivoglio Report . Guido Bentivoglio d'Aragona (Ferrara, October 4, 1577 - Rome, September 7, 1644) was an Italian cardinal, archbishop and historian. At the behest of Pope Paul V he assumed the role of papal ambassador first in Flanders (between 1607 and 1615) and then in Paris (from 1616 to 1621). Returning to Rome, he became a cardinal with the title of cardinal presbyter of San Giovanni a Porta Latina and was appointed to direct the Holy Inquisition during the trial of Galileo. In the Reports he showed great interest in political issues, presented in a more conceptual and moderate style, so much so that they were considered a work halfway between historiography and the political-diplomatic treaty.
