Specialist Notes
This is a Christian apologetic treatise written in Latin, belonging to the medieval and Renaissance strand of religious controversies against Judaism. The author's goal was to demonstrate, according to the Christian theology of the time, the erroneousness of Jewish interpretations of the Scriptures and to uphold the truth of Christianity. Giovanni Battista Graziadei, also known as Gratia Dei Esculanus or Gratiadeus Asculanus, was an Italian theologian and Dominican active between the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Possibly from Ascoli Piceno, he distinguished himself for his philosophical and theological writings in scholastic circles and for his academic activity within the Order of Preachers.
