A fabulous navy officer's sabre, belonging to a member of the Bourbon-Montpensier family, 1911

length 90 cm.
Curved, single-and-false-edged blade, with cylindrical back, the first part on the right side is browned, gilded and engraved with grotesque and anthropomorphic figures, animals, armed antique characters, putti, plant spirals motifs and the shield of Castile and León, in a browned rectangle engraved with the date "17 Mayo 1911."; on the left side, the same engraved iconography, except for a bird, the inscription "MARINA ESPANOLA" and a large anchor instead of the coat of arms; tang gilded en suite, with engraved maker's inscription "FABRICA DE TOLEDO" and an engraved putto. Beautiful, gilt brass hilt shaped as a sail, the latter totally engraved, pierced and carved, in the centre stands the coat-of-arms in enamel of the House of Bourbon-Montpensier, which is placed in a crowned shield and set in an ellipse, with an engraved border with the inscription "S.A.R DUQUE DE MONTPENSIER", on either side of this ellipse there is a sea dragon, a lion and a beautiful depiction of a fretwork ship; the parry quillon worked in the round with an animal face; the loop-guard with anchor, figure and the three fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbon. Pommel carved in the shape of a lion's head, long cap with engraved anchor. Ivory grip with sectors equally spaced and transverse to the blade, complete with gilded wire binding. Leather scabbard (defects and minor missing parts) with gilt brass mounts fully engraved with spirals; one suspension ring.
