Specialist Notes
This car was commissioned by a Milanese client in 1932: he specified the left-hand steering seldom found on pre-1956 Lancias, and the car has lived in the city ever since. During the 1930s it was loaned on more than one occasion to the City Governor for the visits of V.I.P.s; both King Victor Emmanuel II and dictator Benito Mussolini have ridden in it. The body is a six-light fully openable cabriolet with winding windows, finished in navy blue with light brown belt moulding and brown hide upholstery. Equipment includes a side-mounted spare wheel, a large luggage grid and straps at the rear, SIATA shock absorbers, headlamps with polygonal shells in the contemporary Lancia idiom, and twin tail lamps. Purchased at Sotheby's auction in Monza in 1972. This car has been standing still for more than 30 years with the need for consequent restorations. The paintwork is in good shape for a car of its age, but the plating is in need of renewal, especially on the window frames and surrounds. The trim is somewhat worn, and the varnish on the dashboard has cracked, while the hood, though still weatherproof, is discoloured and the rear window is opaque and in need of replacement. The five Englebert tyres on the car are said to be the originals.
