Specialist Notes
Evangelista Marcellino (1530-1593) was a Franciscan monk, chronicler of the order and writer, born Lorenzo Gerbi. Born in San Marcello Pistoiese, he died in Rome. He used the pseudonym Lorenzo Selva. This is a rare novel, with only a few copies recorded in Italian public libraries.
Passano I, 364: "this book, published under the pseudonym of Lorenzo Selva is a novel worthy in many parts of the elegant pen of Firenzuola".
