Information
Autograph letter addressed to an unspecified recipient, Modena, 11 June 1644. Single sheet of mm. 310x205, written only on the recto. Reinforced on the verso and restored with small loss of text. Fulvio Testi, originally from Ferrara, was the main classicist poet of the first half of the seventeenth century. In the service of the Duke of Este of Modena, he held various diplomatic roles and held high positions. From 1640 to 1642 he was governor of Garfagnana. Strongly anti-Spanish and therefore favorable to the Savoy and the French, in 1646 he was accused of treason and locked up in prison, where he died shortly thereafter. In the letter he says he is always very busy “in the service of SA” and thanks for the sending of a taffeta of his “deep satisfaction” both for the quality and the colour, for which however he asks his friend to tell him the price to save him from embarrassment.
