Rare foxing and browning on the leaves; a near-very good copy. § Together in the lot: Freind J., Johannis Freind […] De Purgantibus, in secunda variolarum confluentium febre, ad hibendis epistola, Rotterdam, apud Johannem Hofhout, 1720. In-8°, 154x92 mm, contemporary full leather binding, five raised bands on the spine, gold title and decorations on the spine, marbled paper on the back covers, edges sprayed in red, silk bookmark; pp. [16], 160. Typographic engraving on the title page. Title page printed in red and black. Woodcut decorations and initials. Slight traces of use on the binding (a small abrasion on the front cover). Some marginal stains on some leaves, including the one on the title page. Otherwise, fresh and clean leaves. Overall, a very good copy. § De Rosenstein Rosen, Trattato delle malattie de' bambini di Niccolo Rosen de Rosenstein ... , Bassano, paid by Remondini of Venice, 1783. In-8°, 170x110 mm, 19th-century hardback half-leather binding with corners and marbled paper on the covers, edges sprayed with blue; pp. VIII, 439, [1]. Woodcut decoration on the front cover; woodcut header at the beginning of the text. Publication note from the printing license on paper 2E4r: Giuseppe Remondini. Handwritten ownership note at the bottom of the title page (Francisci Vanini MP). Slight traces of use on the binding (light abrasions on the front cover leaves). Some foxing on some leaves. Work in very good overall condition. § Meneghini Giuseppe, De axe cephalo-spinali dissertatio inauguralis , Patavii, Ex Officina Sociorum Titulo Minerva, 1834. In-8°, 230x150 mm, modern half-leather binding and marbled paper on the covers, title in gilt letters on the spine; Latin text. Wax seal on the title page and label glued to the verso of the first free front flyleaf (Ex libris Loris Premuda). Modern binding. Slight foxing, particularly on the title page. Leaves in beards. Work in very good overall condition.

Specialist Notes

Rare first and only edition . The year of publication should be 1641 and not 1650, as indicated. § Rare second edition of this work on fevers and smallpox (first published in London in 1719). John Freind (1675-1728) was one of the most famous physicians in England. Prov.: Handwritten inscriptions of two owners on the title page (illegible). § First Venetian edition (preceded in Italy by one published in Milan in 1780) of this pioneering and innovative work on pediatrics, edited by the famous Swedish physician, Rosen de Rosenstein, considered the founder of modern pediatrics; the work is divided into XXVIII chapters that deal with various medical topics. § Medical work edited by Giuseppe Meneghini (1811-1889), geologist, paleontologist, first president of the Italian Geological Society, physician, professor of chemistry and botany, senator, and patriot. "A compilation that demonstrates great diligence, study, and discernment ... in clarifying the functions of the individual parts of the brain, the medulla oblongata, the spinal cord ..." (excerpt from the "Journal of Literature, Sciences and Arts compiled by various literary figures," Milan, 1835).
