Specialist Notes

Original edition of this short medical treatise, mainly developed on practice, with numerous references to ancient authors. § Rare third edition of this medical work by Boerhaave on the treatment of diseases, which had a notable success since its first publication in 1720 in English and in 1723 in Latin and was therefore reprinted several times. § Translation from the first ed. published in London in 1751 of the medical work edited by Richard Mead (1673-1754), a British physician, whose work "A Short Discourse concerning Pestilential Contagion, and the Method to be used to prevent it" (1720), was of historical importance for understanding contagious diseases. § First Italian edition (the first ed. came out in Basel in 1747) of this alphabetical dictionary of medical terms from the works of Hippocrates, collected by the Zwinger.
