Information
Tbilisi, Sovetskiy Kavkaz, 1925. 8°. Paperback. Cover designed by Zdanevich. Limited edition of 5000 copies. Light browning. Some leaves are slightly loose.
The publisher's striking constructivist cover, printed in red and black, was designed by Tiflis-born artist Kirill Zdanevich (1892–1969). Zdanevich was a founder of the futurist group 41° and created graphics for some of the finest avant-garde books of the time. His cubo-futurist style was characterized by a strong sense of color.
The last edition published during Esenin's lifetime in the Caucasus, where the poet spent a lot of time in 1924-1925, choosing this region as a refuge during a difficult period of his life. The lyric poems are permeated with a deep love for the new Revolutionary Russia, whose fate is inseparable from that of Esenin himself, and reflect the poet's sense of responsibility to his people, his time and his homeland. During his short life, Sergei Esenin (1895–1925) gained recognition as the best lyric poet of Russia.
