A rare Colt Model 1889 Navy Double Action Revolver, 1889

length 22,5 cm.
3“ rifled cylindrical barrel, equipped with foresight, markings on the back featuring the company address and 1888 patent in three lines, side markings with caliber/model ”COLT D.A. 38." Clean bore, visible rifling, small signs of wear inside. Six-shot cylinder with long flutes and without stop-notches, counterclockwise rotation (typical of the model). Working mechanism, mixed action. Frame with prancing horse on the left side. Contemporary assembly numbers visible. Serial number “31xxx” on the bottom of the grip. Knurled rubber grips with small missing parts and “COLT” inscription at the top. Some areas with slight pitting. Remains of browning, probably old, at about 30%.

Specialist Notes

Of interest to collectors as the first Colt revolver manufactured with a swing-out cylinder. Total production amounted to 31,000 examples. Moreover, among the three standard models, this is the rarest, with a 3-inch barrel. See Flayderman's Guide, 9th Edi
