Information

USA
length 25 cm.
5", octagonal, 31 cal. barrel, featuring a low brass foresight, featuring traces of mark on the back (not clearly legible but probably with a New York address on a single line). Visible rifling, clean bore. Smooth, six-shot cylinder marked "COLTS PATENT" and with traces of engraving from the stagecoach holdup. Working cock and trigger but cylinder does not rotate. Frame also marked "COLTS PATENT". Iron gripstraps. Walnut grip. The revolver has the serial number "296xxx L" on the barrel, frame and trigger guard, and probably also on the cylinder, although it is barely visible. The bottom of the grip has no serial number. Marks of the London test bench are present on both the barrel and the cylinder. Signs of use and time. Kept in an old wooden case (slightly warped), lined with green cloth and provided with various accessories, lock present but without key.

Specialist Notes

The revolver has characteristics of London Colts (iron gripstraps, London marks, "L" after the serial number) but is probably an exported American model (see barrel mark and serial number too high for a Pocket produced in London). There are known examples
