Information
Original Captain America pencil sketch by John Romita Sr., 17 x 8 cm, signed. This is likely one of the famous retouches of the faces on the Captain America covers. In fact, many of the most famous Captain America covers from the 1970s and 1980s, even when drawn by other artists (such as a young Jack Kirby at his return or Sal Buscema), were often retouched by Romita Sr. to ensure the character's "brand" remained consistent and appealing. The drawing was done on a tracing sheet and then applied to cardstock. John Romita Sr.'s contribution to Captain America is crucial, as he accompanied the character through two completely opposite historical phases: the publishing crisis of the 1950s and the triumph of his rise as a Marvel icon in the 1970s. After consolidating the success of Spider-Man, Romita Sr. returned to Captain America in the early 1970s (issues #138-159), collaborating with writers such as Stan Lee and Steve Englehart.
