Specialist Notes
The Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata Maggiore is a church in Naples, located in the Pendino neighborhood near Forcella, in the city's historic center. The institution, dedicated to the care of abandoned children, was sponsored by the Congregation of the Santissima Annunziata, founded in 1318. In 1343, Queen Sancha of Aragon, wife of Robert of Anjou, provided an endowment for the congregation, which from then on grew in the shadow of the kings of Naples, assuming the legal status of the Royal House of the Annunziata of Naples.
