Specialist Notes
Paolo Maria Paciaudi (Turin, 1710 – Parma, 1785) distinguished himself as a scholar, numismatist, epigrapher, and theologian. After a youth dedicated to preaching, he turned to antiquarian studies, becoming a prominent figure in sacred and profane archaeology. Summoned to Parma by Duke Philip of Bourbon, he founded and organized the Palatine Library, which became one of the most prestigious centers in Europe. His work contributed to the spread of Enlightenment culture, supporting Jansenist and anti-Jesuit reforms and orientations.
