Round, rifled barrel (signs of use and slight pitting inside, visible rifling), provided with foresight and adjustable foldaway rear sight, marked with inspection mark shaped as an eagle's head and "VP". 45 cal. at the nozzle (probably for 45-70). Trapdoor breech marked "U.S. MODEL 1873". Frame with serial number "84xxx". Forward spring lock with lock plate featuring remains of the US eagle and "U.S. SPRINGFIELD". Working mechanism. The bolt firing pin is locked in the forward position (does it needs cleaning to unlock?). Full stock of walnut wood with signs of use and time. Two military inspection marks, one on the counterplate, one after the rear trigger tang; both not clearly legible. Iron mounts and ramrod. Butt-plate marked "U.S.". Slight signs of finishing.
