Produced between 1963 and 1977, the Rover P6 revolutionised the concept of the British saloon, winning the first overall award for Car of the Year in 1964.
Designed by Charles Spencer King to rejuvenate the brand's image, the P6 stood out for its cutting-edge technical solutions: a load-bearing passenger cell with bolted exterior panels and a refined suspension layout, featuring a De Dion axle and inboard disc brakes. A pioneer in safety too, it introduced crumple zones and a collapsible steering column when they were still rare.
Despite over 322,000 units being produced at Solihull, the decline of British Leyland management marked its final years, leading to the passing of the baton to the Rover SD1 in 1977.
