Specialist Notes
Lion Peugeot was a French car manufacturer operating independently between 1905 and 1909 and as a brand owned by Peugeot from 1910 to 1916. The history of Lion Peugeot began in 1905, thanks to the three brothers Robert, Pierre and Jules, sons of Eugène Peugeot, owner of the homonymous company specializing in tools and brother of Armand Peugeot, founder of the French car company of the same name. The three made a first prototype in 1905, which would go on sale in 1906 under the name of Lion Peugeot Type VA. This is an example of the VA model produced at Beauliau-Valentigney; a thousand were made. It carries simple two-seater bodywork without doors, windscreen or hood. This body is cane-panelled; the bolster-type fuel tank is mounted at the rear. A bonnet strap is fitted, and lighting is by a single acetylene headlamp and two oil sidelamps. Purchased at Christie's auction in Monza in 1974. General condition is good, although the car has not run for some time.
