Specialist Notes

She was the great icon of her time : from singer to opera singer, then actress, whose extraordinary physical and aesthetic appearance always ended up prevailing, so much so that Gabriele D'Annunzio called her "Venus on Earth." A son born at a very young age and five husbands, but above all – it is said – something like 840 marriage proposals!
Lina Cavalieri was called "the most beautiful woman in the world," because that was the beautiful label with which she came to be identified. And if that weren't enough, let's add the words of Gabriele D'Annunzio, who certainly understood women and called her "the greatest example of Venus on Earth." During the "Belle Epoque," Lina Cavalieri captivated with her beauty and the grace of a true lady, despite her humble origins. Her presence on the opera stage, in an era of Puritanism, brought a genuine wave of sensuality (polite, however) and highlighted the supreme expression of feminine beauty of her time; while her voice may not have excelled, she nevertheless managed to exalt herself and exalt others with her stage presence and acting, crucial assets in the era of verismo.
