Venice, Press Giacomo de' Franceschi, 1619. In 4°. 7 parts in one volume, each with its own title page within an architectural frame. Numerous woodcut illustrations, including several full-page illustrations for each book. Some page numbering errors. This copy is slightly trimmed. Book six consists of 27 leaves and is placed at the end of the volume. Some small stains, traces of damp, some minor woodworm damage, restorations to the outer margins of some leaves. Later binding in half parchment with corners and decorated paper, red edges. Bookplate on the back cover: "Biblioteca Caproni Vizzola."
Specialist Notes
Second edition of this impressive and well-known architectural work by Serlio, including an index edited by Scamozzi and a speech by him; the first edition was published in 1584 by the Venetian press Franceschi. This edition, enriched with detailed illustrated frontispieces for each book, features a rich array of woodcut illustrations.
