Specialist Notes
The publication of the "Ricordi" by Francesco Guicciardini was posthumous and took place in Paris in 1576 by the man of letters Jacopo Corbinelli. They are a collection of short reflections written between 1512 and 1530. The work is considered a model for the writing of maxims and aphorisms, in which Guicciardini analyzes the historical approach of Machiavelli.
Already from the title "Avvertimenti", they present themselves as such: sententious maxims, brief thoughts, recommendations of a moral and practical nature, seasoned with an uncommon lucidity of thought. The recipients are - it is right to remember this to better contextualize the work - first and foremost the members of the family (from this point of view the Ricordi can certainly be ascribed to the important tradition of Tuscan "mercantile" literature, and in particular Florentine).
