Information
Paris: Les Éditions Georges Visat, 1965. In folio, 380 x 250 mm., 12 drypoint and burin engravings by Hans Bellmer (1902-1975), each signed. Preserved in a pink silk slipcase and case. First edition published under the name of Georges Bataille (1897-1962), the second illustrated.
These engravings, intended to illustrate the 1955 edition published by Jean-Jacques Pauvert, had, according to Antoine Coron, "induced the publisher to back out, keeping them in his drawers and then selling them in 1964 to Georges Visat". The latter - Bataille had died in 1962 - decided to publish the text under the author's real name and arranged the composition according to a strict justification, in accordance with the format of the plates, as desired by the painter".
