Specialist Notes

Fourth edition of the most important Italian agronomic treatise of the 16th century, with numerous practical information on land cultivation and animal breeding. The work, first published in 1644, was highly successful and was reprinted many times over the next 150 years. The first book is dedicated to bread and wine; the second to grapes and bees; the third deals with farmyard animals, with interesting culinary notions; the fourth is dedicated to vegetable gardens and ways of cooking vegetables; the fifth is intended for gardens and flowers; the sixth to the cultivation of the fields; and finally the seventh part talks about the influence of the sun and the moon on cultivation, also including interesting descriptions of banquets and dinners, with suggestions on hunting. The work also contains several chapters on gastronomy, including a list of 110 ways to "dress" and cook pork.
