Poet and librettist Sebastiano Biancardi was born in Naples on March 27, 1679, and died on October 9, 1741, in Venice. An employee at the Banco della SS. Annunziata, he was accused of theft, so he fled his hometown and, taking the name Domenico Lalli, took refuge in Venice, where he began writing opera librettos for the most celebrated masters of his time (including Antonio Vivaldi, Alessandro Scarlatti, GB Percetti, Leonardo Leo, etc.). In collaboration with Goldoni, he wrote the libretto La generosità politica for G. M. Marchi (Venice, Teatro S. Samuele, 1736). He was also the author of sonnets, rhymes, and Li sette Psalmi di Davide spiegati secondo i sensi in versi italiani (Venice 1726).
