Specialist Notes
He enrolled at the University of Padua at just fourteen and graduated in law in July 1821 at the age of seventeen; he subsequently devoted himself to legal practice in his native city. In 1824, he married Teresa Perissinotti (1795-1849), a member of an aristocratic Venetian family with large landed estates in Venice, Mestre, and the Treviso area. Also in 1824, he completed the translation of Justinian's Pandects and in 1847 wrote an extensive treatise on Venetian jurisprudence, which was also translated into French.
The letter in question testifies to Manin's close ties with Venetian booksellers, during years of study and intense legal activity, before embarking on his patriotic "career."
