Specialist Notes
The Psalter of Dagulfo is an illuminated codex produced by the workers of the Royal Palace shortly before the coronation of Charlemagne which takes its name from the scribe who signed some verses dedicated to the king. The sumptuous codex collects 150 psalms from the Old Testament made between 783 and 795 d. C. by masters of Worms and Metz and later of Aachen, witnessing different moments in the Carolingian illuminated production. The format of the manuscript suggests a private use, possibly for Charlemagne's wife, Hildegard.
