Specialist Notes
Scottish mathematician, professor of mathematics at the University of Glasgow from 1711 to 1761. Robert Simson is best known for his celebrated critical edition of Euclid's Elements (1756), long considered the standard text for geometry teaching in Europe. His studies contributed to the rediscovery and correct transmission of classical Greek mathematics. The so-called "Simson line" in triangle geometry is traditionally associated with him.
