dating: 1858 - 1870 circa provenance: Belgium, Rifled, cylindrical, 11 mm cal barrel, provided with rear sight Six-shot cylinder with marks of the Liege test bench. Markings 'E. LEFAUCHEUX INV.R BREVETE' and 'JONGEN FRERES LIEGE,' serial number '57240,' crowned 'G' mark. Well-working mechanism. Smooth wooden grips. Ring for the strap. Trigger guard with finger support, rounded butt-plate. A Belgian-manufacturing revolver on a Lefaucheux patent.When the navy and then the Italian army began to introduce Lefaucheux-patented pinfire revolvers, many Italian officers privately purchased them; they were also produced for the civil market, and there were also Belgian-made ones. See a revolver very similar to the one presented in our auction in 'Italian Military Pistols by L. Salvatici' (p. 92 below), with caption: 'A Belgian imitation of the Lefaucheux model revolver. Weapons of this kind were purchased privately by officers and volunteers, as an alternative to the original ones'. length 29 cm.
