dating: 1862 provenance: Turin, Heavy, octagonal, rifled, 11 mm cal. barrel, signed with 'ROCHAT A TURIN' in gold and with 'VE' monogram (standing for Victor Emmanuel II) under crown, frames at the base, nozzle with precision front sight; finely engraved tang with floral motifs provided with peep sight. Forward spring lock, fully decorated with fine floral engravings. Wooden full stock, two silver cartouches on the right side, the upper one with Savoy coat of arms, the lower bandeau one with dedication 'DONO DI S.M. VITTORIO EMANUELE II ALLA SOCIETA DI TIRO A SEGNO DI TORINO 1862'. Checkered base, horn fore-end cap. Iron mounts decorated en suite with lock, ergonomic trigger guard with quick girdle, sliding, ovoid, wooden pommel. Set trigger. Iron ramrod. It was customary for the king to offer rifles like this one to the most important shooting societies as reward for the winner of the competition. length 125 cm.
