Information
dating: First half of the 19th Century provenance: Greece, Slightly grooved, thin, single-edged, straight blade with curved tip and a flat back. On both sides long, gold-inlaid, Arabic inscriptions on a dark background, on one side a small star-shaped cartouche with inscriptions, at the base held by two long silver plates, partially gilded and nielloed, silver-coated back at the base with an Arabic inscription, later decorated with gold; silver grip (slightly damaged with missing parts) with small ears, decorated with floral and geometric motifs, partially gilded and nielloed. Complete with silver-covered wooden scabbard with eight braidings on the pommel-cap and in foil for the rest of the length, finely decorated at the top and with bas-relief of flowers and trophies, effigy of a sailing ship and a mosque near the loop; chape shaped as a sea monster's head in the round. length 52.3 cm.
