Umbria
length 150 cm.
Long, smoothbore, two-stage, 16 mm cal. barrel, octagonal at the first part, featuring two deep brass-inlaid marks at the base, "B..T..VA" surmounted by a crown and "B A" surmounted by a rhombus; both surrounded by three triplets of silver-inlaid flowers; two smooth rings and a frame carved with leaves at the girdle; then of round section and featuring a foresight with a silver swallowtailed base. Beautiful Roman flintlock, the lock plate in the centre with a fawn and bird on the tang, oblique and carved borders, the cock with a well-worked hammer throw and jaws engraved with racemes, its round screw head carved with fullers and notch decorations; engraved hound at the base of the pan; carved springs. Internally signed "Fran.co Grassi Foligno". Wooden half stock with sculpted racemes and floral motifs, one side with two deep longitudinal grooves, wooden trigger guard, horn mouth. All mounts, including the smooth barrel bracket band and the two tip holding bands, are made of silver. Brass-tipped horn ramrod and brass cartridge extractors. Good quality.
