Specialist Notes
The painting derives from the famous Madonna della Scala by Correggio, a fresco created for the internal facade of the eastern gate of Parma, then detached and transferred to canvas and now in the National Gallery of Parma.
The painting, in the collection private since the first half of the twentieth century, it is accompanied by copies of expertises by well-known scholars, such as Giuseppe Fiocco, Benno Geiger and Rodolfo Pallucchini (Giuseppe Fiocco, January 31, 1945, as Michelangelo Anselmi; Benno Geiger, Venice February 6, 1945 who proposed a attribution to Correggio himself; Rodolfo Pallucchini, Venice 1 March 1945, as a Correggio school).
