Information
Naples, Giovanni di Simone, 1752. In 4°. Typographical device of the fortune, 9 folded plates of various sizes outside the text , one detached, tears and restorations, browning and foxing, contemporary full parchment binding. There are several editions published in the same year, all containing a variable number of texts inside. The present edition is composed of a first work - after the dedication - of 460 pp. in Roman numerals; and a second work of 260 pp., also in Roman numerals. Following, with its own title page in red and black, Incendio del Vesuvio succede li 19. d'Ottobre del 1767 , by Gio. M. Della Torre , Naples, Donato Campo, 1767. Small work of a total of 30 pp. numbered also in Roman numerals.
Specialist Notes
The work accurately describes the eruption of Vesuvius that began on October 25, 1751, including events up to February 25, 1752, and the location known as "Atrio del Cavallo." Published in Naples by Giovanni Di Simone, it includes additions up to 1766. The plates were drawn by Giovanni Morghen and engraved by Domenico Dell'Acerra. It is considered an important historical and scientific document on the eruption of Vesuvius, with particular attention to the 1751-1752 eruption.
