Specialist Notes
A rare first edition of this fascinating work dedicated to one of the many eruptions of Vesuvius . A series of chapters exhaustively describes the long day of that fateful day in May 1737, the explosion, the lava flow, the materials in this Vesuvius lava, the ash, the rocks, and finally, the state of the volcano after this last eruption. The work is illustrated with two fold-out copperplate maps: the first is a general view of Vesuvius, including everything at its foot, and the second is a closer view.
