Specialist Notes

The work, structured into speeches, examines a wide range of aspects of this region, from the geographical and physical to the historical and archaeological. The third part describes the qualities of the region's people, investigates the original inhabitants, the ethnic groups and their ways of governing, and the wars they waged with the Tarentines, Sunnis, and Romans. The second part presents localities such as Silaro, Numistrone and Vulceio, Pesto, Velia, the Valley of the Alento Rivers, Melpi, Menicardo, Bussento, Palinuro, Camerota, Policastro, Vibonati, Sapri, and Maratea. The third part describes Sybaris, the Siri River and the Acri, the Salandrella and Bradano rivers with the Metaponto plain, and finally Potenza. This edition contains, after the third part, a letter from Matteo Egizio to Mr. Langlet Du Fresnoy with Antonini's replies to this, Antonini's dissertations on the invention and translation to Salerno of the body of St. Matthew, the chapter of the same on Mal Franzese and, finally, two apologetic letters from F. Mazzarella Farao.
