GENERAL DESCRIPTION
LOT DESCRIPTION
This car boasts a racing history, not only in historical reenactments but also during its "young" life. With its short wheelbase, it's an extremely lively and rewarding car to drive. Owned by the current owner since 2010, it's a well-preserved example whose patina reveals its racing history.
The 1961 Lancia Appia Sport Zagato is one of the most attractive and sporty versions derived from the small Appia sedan, transformed by the Milanese coachbuilder Zagato into an elegant, lightweight and aerodynamic coupé. Introduced in the late 1950s, this version perfectly embodied the Lancia philosophy of the time: refined technical solutions combined with brilliant performance in a compact format. The model was equipped with the characteristic narrow V4 engine of approximately 1,100 cc, capable of delivering just over 60 hp, which, thanks to the very light weight of the aluminum body, ensured a lively and sporty drive. The car also stood out for its sleek lines and typical Zagato details such as the slightly rounded roof and handcrafted construction. Production was extremely limited: just over 200 Appia Sport Zagato models were built in all series, making it a very rare and sought-after vehicle today. It was sold primarily in Italy and some European markets, often destined for customers with a passion for sports driving and for competitions in the touring category. Today the Appia Sport Zagato is considered one of the most elegant and pure post-war Lancias, a symbol of the meeting between refined engineering and the great Italian coachbuilding tradition.
