GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Fiat-OSCA 1600 S Cabriolet is a refined Italian sports spider from the early 1960s, born from the collaboration between OSCA (Officine Specializzate Costruzioni Automobili dei fratelli Maserati) and Fiat. Introduced in 1959 as an evolution of the 1500 S, it represented a perfect balance between grand touring elegance and sporty performance. The Pininfarina design is one of the model's most distinctive elements: clean lines, harmonious proportions, low front, and sleek rear end fully expressed the Italian style of the era. The Cabriolet version, with a soft top and well-finished cabin, offered a sporty yet comfortable driving experience. Under the hood was a brilliant 1,568 cc twin-cam 4-cylinder engine, designed by OSCA and derived directly from racing experience. This engine delivered approximately 100-105 hp, a remarkable power output for a lightweight spider of the early 1960s. Thanks to its low weight (around 1,000 kg) and rear-wheel drive, the car guaranteed high-level performance: a top speed of approximately 175-180 km/h, lively acceleration and a very sporty ride, with an excellent balance between comfort and dynamics. It featured a racing-derived twin-cam engine, a rigid and well-balanced chassis, sports suspension for the time, high build quality, and elegant finishes. This spider represents one of the most successful examples of the collaboration between the mass-produced automotive industry and small motorsports specialists. It was produced between 1962 and 1966 in relatively limited numbers: approximately 3,000 units in total, including the Coupé and Cabriolet. Just over 2,000 Cabriolets were built, making it a rather rare car today, especially if in original condition and with an OSCA matching-numbers engine.
