GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The 1997 BMW Z3 1.8 Roadster represents the entry-level version of BMW's famous compact spider, yet retains all the key features that made this model one of the icons of 1990s sports cars. Introduced in the mid-1990s, the Z3 marked the Bavarian manufacturer's return to the lightweight roadster segment, focusing on driving pleasure, style, and affordability. The design, with classic proportions, recalls the brand's traditional sports cars: a long hood, set-back cabin, and a compact rear end. The soft lines and pronounced wheel arches give the car a sporty yet elegant look, which contributed to its great commercial success. It is powered by a 1.8-liter, 1,796 cc, inline-four engine, capable of approximately 115 hp. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, it guaranteed an engaging and highly balanced ride, focused more on driving pleasure than pure performance. Performance was adequate for a compact roadster of the time: a top speed of around 200 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 10 seconds, relatively low fuel consumption, a compact and well-balanced chassis, a sporty driving setup with rear-wheel drive, precise steering and fun dynamics, and a driver-oriented cockpit. The model also gained great international visibility thanks to its appearance in the film GoldenEye, helping to reinforce its image as a youthful and dynamic roadster. Built. The BMW Z3 was produced between 1995 and 2002, with over 297,000 units of the Roadster and Coupé being produced. The 1.8 manual versions represent a significant portion of production in the early years and are today considered the most faithful to the model's original spirit, thanks to their light weight and mechanical simplicity.
