The mechanics are derived from the Giulia, with a 1570 cc twin-cam, four-cylinder in-line engine, a five-speed gearbox with short ratios, independent front suspension and a live axle rear suspension; with coil springs and telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers on all four wheels. The brakes are drum rather than disc, maintaining a look consistent with the 1930s style, highlighted by the spoked wheels. The aluminum body, inspired by the original pre-war model, was built by Zagato following the styling cues of the original 6C 1750 GS Spider, also produced by Zagato between 1927 and 1934, but with notable differences due to the different dimensions of the chassis; the wheels are smaller, the cabin is larger and more advanced, and even the windshield design is different, more similar to that fitted to Touring cars. The car, with left-hand drive instead of right-hand drive like the original, reached a top speed of 155 km/h and was produced in the "Normale" or "Extra" trim levels, with black fenders. This model didn't enjoy the hoped-for success due to its untimely release, its list price of 2,360,000 lire, and the crowded Alfa Romeo open-top range, which at the time included the Pininfarina Duetto (more affordable but with cutting-edge styling) and the Touring Giulia Sprint GTC. Production stopped in December 1962, but remained on the price list until 1969, when the last of the 82 units built were sold.
