Florence, Pietro Matini, 1685. 4°. Cruscante binding on the title page, intaglio headpieces and tailpieces, splendid mosaic red morocco binding with a green, brown, and purple grape vine on the front covers, and a gilt-lined frame on the back cover. Bookplate by Piero Andrea Forzoni Accolti (1639-1719), handwritten under the title page: "Donated by the Author."

Specialist Notes

A splendid example of this classic Dithyramb, a masterpiece by Redi . Here is a dedicated copy donated by the author to the Arcadian poet Piero Andrea Forzoni Accolti. He was Secretary of Latin Letters to Cardinal Francesco Maria de' Medici in Rome and then to Cosimo III; aide-de-chambre to the Grand Duke. A member of the Arcadia (1691) and of the Florentine Academy, of which he was consul in 1708. A member of the Accademia della Crusca from 1682, with the academic name of Sincero.
