Illustrated title page. First edition. Volume lavishly illustrated. Includes "The Immortal Mortal, a Tale" by Mary Shelley. Other authors include Mrs. Charles Gore, Leitch Ritchie, and Agnes Strickland. Also includes a translation by Lord Albert Conyngham of Hoffmann's "The Sandman" (1816), probably his first publication in English. Slight browning.
The Keepsake was an English literary journal, published between 1828 and 1857 during the Christmas season as a gift book for young ladies, noted for its red silk cover and the refinement of its illustrations. Frederic Mansel Reynolds was the editor of the 1829-1835 and 1838-1839 editions. A decorative piece of the Romantic period, rare and collectible.
