Information
Milan, Studio Litografico G. Fraschini & C., 1902. In 32°. Catholic prayer book completely chromolithographed in Art Nouveau style and with high relief and stamped silver binding. Volume bound on 2 recessed ribs, with the Madonna of the Rosary of the sanctuary of the Virgin of the Rosary of Pompei depicted in high relief on the front cover (Madonna and Child offering the rosary to Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine), flanked by flowers and a box with "SS. Vergine del Rosario in Pompei". The spine has 6 pairs of double horizontal grooves, which divide it into 5 sections, with red fabric visible in the hinges. The text was written by Luigi Condio, canon of the church in Turin and author of several editions of the Manual of Prayers. The illustrations and decorations are the work of the Turin miniaturist and calligrapher Vittorio Vulten, who undoubtedly also created the calligraphy of the text.
This is an entirely chromolithographed Art Nouveau prayer book, printed in numerous pastel colours plus gold, with decorations (mostly floral) on each page and numerous additional illustrations:
Jesus, Mary, the Holy Family, angels, Saint Joseph, the Paschal Lamb, the cross, the Masonic eye, books, chalices, candles, thuribles, rosaries, etc., all drawn by Vittorio Vulten, who appears to have also done the calligraphy.
