Giovanni Pascoli, Poesie - Poemi Conviviali: Bologna, Ditta Nicola Zanichelli, 1904. Paperback copy. Publisher's mark on the title page. Pen marks. Well-preserved copy with slight signs of aging.
First edition and important collection of Pascoli's poems, partly original: the sections «The Last Voyage», «The Poet of the Helots», «Poems of Psyche», «The Old Men of Ceo» and the poems «The Hetaera and «The Mother», within the «Poems of Ate» are printed here for the first time. The other poems had already appeared in magazines, in particular in «Il convito», «La Vita Italiana», «Marzocco», «Nuova Antologia», «Flegrea», «Illustrazione Italiana» and «Atene e Roma» (see the «Notes» to the first edition, p. 213). The work opens with a preface consisting of an open letter dedicated to Adolfo de Bosis, the director of the «Convito» in which these poems were first published and from which the collection takes its name. In the second and definitive edition of 1905 only the poem «I gemelli» was included.
