Information

In Padua, ad istantia de gl'Uniti, 1601. 4°, Typographical mark on the title page. Contemporary full parchment binding, calligraphic title, colored edges. The information on Marafioti is very scarce and is mostly taken from his works or from the monograph on the history of Polistena, his hometown, written by the priest Domenico Valensise. Marafioti set out with this work to continue and correct the history of Calabria by Gabriele Barrio published in Rome in 1571. The first edition of this work had proved to be full of gaps and omissions, so much so that Barrio was induced to amend it and publish a second edition, but was prevented from doing so by his death in 1577. The "Croniche et antichità di Calabria" were published for the first time in 1596 in Naples and in 1601 in Padua in a revised, corrected and expanded edition. Cf. Accattatis II, 234.
