Information
Venice, by Ghirardo Imberti, 1638. In 8°. Full parchment binding with manuscript title on the spine. Printer's device with motto on cartouche on the frontispiece. The volume is accompanied by engravings within the text. Coat of arms with cartouche at the end. The last leaf is blank. Woodworms and slight defects in the binding.
An encyclopedic work that ranges from history to mythology. Similar in structure to Gellius' Attic Nights, it is one of the first to expose the new discoveries of Renaissance science, albeit in a completely unsystematic and cumbersome form, to a popular and non-specialist audience. It was widely distributed in Europe with dozens of editions.
