Manuscript with autograph signature of Louis XVI of Bourbon (Versailles, 23 August 1754 – Paris, 21 January 1793), sent to Baron Louis-Armand de Mackau.
Written in brown ink on paper and bound with red thread, it consists of 16 pp. written by a single hand, 235 x 192 mm. Dated Paris, 10 June 1792. Baron Louis Armand of Mackau, son of an ambassador, had entered the diplomatic career at a very young age as minister plenipotentiary at the court of Württemberg. Two years earlier he had met the sovereigns of Naples on their return journey from the coronation of Leopold II. On 30 April 1792 the baron was appointed Minister Plenipotentiary at the Court of Naples, where he arrived on 12 August, with Ugo di Basseville as Secretary of Legation. After his death in 1793, Vincenzo Monti composed the Bassvilliana. The witness is very interesting, not only for the people involved, but for its historical value: the King wrote the present Memoirs on June 10, 1792, two months after his deposition that preceded his beheading by a short time. With this writing the King did not want to give precise instructions, but only general notions, because he is aware of his uncertain position in Naples. He tries to give him an overview of the Kingdom of Naples and the people involved, describing the behaviors to be held.
