Specialist Notes
A valuable work, now in its second edition, dedicated to the origins and earliest history of Brescia, of singular importance for its wealth of information on ancient artifacts, civil and religious events, as well as the city's art and architecture. The engravings are by Elisabetta Piccini (Venice, 1644-1734), known as Sister Isabella, who was among the finest engravers of seventeenth-century Venice. A student of her father Giacomo, she produced elegant frontispieces, frontispieces, and sacred and allegorical subjects, works sought after by publishers and collectors in Italy and abroad.
