Specialist Notes
Each volume, except the last, opens with a copperplate frontispiece and contains countless plates, often folded, depicting images of natural science, technical instruments, naval art, etc. Fifth edition of this important, richly illustrated, "ante litteram" encyclopedia, an Italian translation of a famous French work by Pluche. Noël Antoine Pluche (1688-1761), better known as Abbé Pluche, was a French priest and teacher of rhetoric, famous above all for his natural history work "Spectacle de la nature," but also for his geography works, including the one intended for young readers, "Concorde de la geographie."
