Specialist Notes

Francesco Berni was an Italian comic poet (c. 1497–1535). This work, the most extensive attributed to him, is a reworking of Matteo Maria Boiardo's famous chivalric poem, Orlando innamorato. It was first published by Giunti in 1541, then in Milan in 1542. This is a third edition, with the first 80 octaves revised.

"Sought after as the best and rarest." Mazzucchelli, II, 991.
