Specialist Notes
An intriguing manuscript contemporary with Leti's work, of excellent provenance. The Perugian Aureli family, whose origins date back to the 16th century, died out through the male line with the death of Sperello Aurelio in 1791. He was the son of Count Claudio and Agnese degli Sperelli of Assisi. Sperello had married Anna Bontempi. Other noble families, such as the Alfani, Ranieri, and Giusti, also intermarried with the Aureli.
The "scandalous" biography of Donna Olimpia Maldalchini, sister-in-law of Pope Innocent X, who enjoyed enormous power during his pontificate, written by a seventeenth-century Italian "libertine."Contact
