Specialist Notes
A German physicist, naturalist, and mountaineer from the Baltics, Parrot embarked on a celebrated expedition to Mount Ararat in 1829, departing from Dorpat in April and reaching the summit on October 9. The undertaking was for scientific purposes, including barometric measurements, geological studies, and naturalistic observations of the region. This ascent represents one of the first documented on Mount Ararat, combining exploration and scientific research. The expedition consolidated Parrot's reputation as an explorer and contributed significantly to European knowledge of the mountainous regions of Western Asia in the 19th century.
